  1. better fonts rendering for windows

team, it would be great to have a better font/ font rendering on windows screens - fonts look ***** on 19201080 screens in 110% scale - on macbooks they are rendered much more smoother.

It would be great to have a font or font rendering that is similar to jupyter notebook.

  2. Docstring

If like in Jupyter, you can display a docstring for functions (e.g. shift+tab)

  4. For an mlflow experiment, you were able to see all results with one click

It's frustrating to have to scroll down and click "load more" for every additional 100 runs. (I have over a 1000 runs for a particular mlflow experiment.)

And it's also confusing to have to scroll down and click "load more" until all the results are displayed for the "Download CSV" button to download all of the results.

  5. pinned

Increase amount of allowed pinnable clusters from 20 to something higher.

  6. List of recent notebooks persisted across browsers/devices

It would be great if the list of recent notebooks was not specific to a browser/device and I could seamlessly sign in to another device and see the last notebook I was working on in the recent list, even if it was on another device (but with the same account, obviously.)

  8. Small Cluster instances for reading files

A big pain point of spark / databricks is reading millions of small files. Unfortunately, that's a common scenario. It's possible to read those when spinning a lot of workers at the same time but unfortunately, it's also quite expensive. It would be great to have a cluster type with really little ram just for reading all those files. Afterwards is possible to perform a coalesce to pack them into bigger parquet files for further processing with a bigger cluster and less worker nodes.

  9. passing a variable to %run command as the notebook path

Will allow the option to import notebooks dynamically. Helpful when using %run as a replacement for import statements.

  11. Searching for a string in notebook cells using regex

Sometimes, there is a need for a feature where we can pass a string within a widget and if the string exists anywhere within the notebook, it can be validated.

Scenario: Check to see if a table name passed as a widget variable is present in that particular notebook (String match).

  12. Style tables in notebooks similar to Pandas

I would like to use this feature of Pandas which works in vanilla jupyter notebooks:

    https://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/user_guide/style.html

Doing so results in an import error. Similarly, I would like to style display()'d Spark DataFrames.

  13. Create dashboard from multiple notebooks

I have different notebooks and would like to create a dashboard that pulls the outputs from different notebooks. I'm not sure if that feature is already available but when I try to add a cell to an existing dashboard from another notebook, I can't find it.

  14. Provide a working example of TensorFlow 2.0 subclassing API running in eager mode in a Pandas UDF

Currently there is no example of working weight loading in a (possibly nested) subclassed TF2.0 model (tf.keras, the new standard) running inside a Pandas UDF, since this is the new industry standard of ML it would be great to have an example of how this is done in databricks

  15. Allow for non-GPU workers with a GPU driver

For single node-GPU (ML/TensorFlow/etc) work, it can be useful to have Spark running and aggregating work on the driver while not doing any GPU work on the workers. Thus it would be great to be able to mix and match a cost-effective setup that doesn't have GPU's idling on the workers.

  17. There was a button to jump to the current running cell

This would save me LITERALLY SECONDS every day. And a lot of sanity.

  18. streaming visualization

It would be great if streaming visualizations were supported just like it was demoed by Michael Armbrust in the following video. Having to refresh manually, or on a schedule, for a live dashboard is not as elegant.

  19. Pin widgets on Dashboard (presentation mode)

pin widgets on top of dashboard when in presentation mode to avoid scrolling all the way to the top to change widget selections.

  20. Multiple Plots and Text Output per Cell

I want to thank the databricks team for including multiple matplotlib plots per cell as part of the 6.0 Runtime. However, for my workflow, this misses the mark on how I use this feature in Jupyter.

As part of exploratory analysis I will often loop through either columns or through subsets of the data and print out statistics, tables and/or other text along with plots of the data. This creates a lot of output per cell in Jupyter but allows me to scroll through the output quickly without having to reproduce the code over multiple cells. The end result is…
