  1. Add dark theme to the notebooks

I really like to develop using a black theme, like the one in Intellij "Dracula" theme

  2. azure active directory

I would like to grant users access based on Azure AD security groups. Instead of managing users individually and directly in databricks.

  3. Plot multiple charts from a single cell

It would be great if I could plot multiple charts from a single cell. It would be useful for looping through a collection and displaying one plot for each iteration.

  5. Databricks could use Jupyter as a front end

I notice that Databricks have been trying to catch up to Jupyter in terms of functionality lately. IMHO Jupyter has several things such as more flexible visualization, ability to create dashboards, etc, that are currently not available in Databricks. As a popular OSS solution, it is also better known for newcomers to Databricks. Instead of duplicating effort to build similar functionality, wouldn't it be better if Databricks and Jupyter could collaborate on building a better notebook environment for everyone?

  6. Use AAD authentication in the REST API and Databricks CLI instead of user tokens

Use Azure Active Directory (AAD) authentication in the REST API (and Databricks CLI) instead of user tokens

  7. Split screen - code and results

The code should be on the left and the output should be on the right. Right now, since everything is left-justified, it’s too hard to read and most people do not read code then graphs then code, etc. Either way, there should be a setting to allow this as a usability option.

  8. Have multiple notebooks open at one time with tabs

I find myself having to routinely navigate between notebooks to copy/reuse code. Currently, this requires me to click back on the workspace, then to my separate notebook, and back.

It would be great if I could have multiple notebooks open at once, perhaps in separate tabs that I could switch back and forth between.

  9. Git integration should be on folder/repo level, not just single notebooks

The current git integration only integrates single notebooks. But with notebook flows and other features, we have a whole folder structure of notebooks with interdependencies. So instead of integrating a single notebook with a file in git, you should be able to connect a Databricks folder to a git repo and branch, pursing/pulling the whole thing in one (just like a normal git repo).

I know this can be accomplished using the workspace api and CLI, but it would be great to be able to do this without involving the desktop at all.

  10. Add documentation using SHIFT+TAB

As in Jupyter notebooks, databricks should add a simple shortcut (in iPython SHIFT+TAB) to view the documentation for a specific function. This fuctionality is used a lot to quickly find out what are the required parameters as well as the optional arguments for the function

  11. Cut/Copy - Paste MULTIPLE cells in a notebook at a time

Thanks for enabling copy/cut -paste of individual cells, but we really also need to be able to select multiple cells and do the same. It would be great just to get the simple SHIFT-arrow up/down selection behavior of Jupyter.

  12. Add option to upgrade workspace to premium from standard

There is currently no way to upgrade a workspace from the standard tier to the premium tier. Rather than having to export all notebooks, create a new workspace, port everything over, re-mount storage endpoints, re-add all users, and import the notebooks, it would be preferable to be able to click a button.

  13. dbutils.fs operations supported wildcards

Support some sort of wildcard or partial filename matching for the 'from' argument to cp(), rm(), and mv().

  14. Manage folder permissions through API

I would like to manage access (permissions) to folders through the API instead of the GUI. Such that I can automatically enforce folder structure/access.

  15. I can create a table of contents (TOC) at the beginning of the notebook for navigation purposes

It would be nice to create a table of contents to better organized my notebook. This will make it more compelling for me to share my notebook as an official report.

It would be great if the html export of a notebook with collapsible headings would also have collapsible headings.

  17. There was a calendar widget

    e.g. dbutils.widgets.calendar(name, default date, label)

A widget in which you can click and a popup of a calendar occurs in which you can pick a date.

Time would be nice as well, but at the very least, date.

  18. Databricks sends a failure email only when all retries fail

At the moment, Databricks is sending a failure email every time a job is failing.

It could be better to have an option to send an email only when all retries of a job failed.

The reason for this feature is that no action can be taken when a job is failing. The only action consists to go to the job dashboard to notice that Databricks did well by relaunching the job. However, if the failure email was coming only when all the retries fail, a manual action would be needed by us.

In our case, we're observing very regularly…

  19. "Star" notebooks to add them to Favourites

It would be beneficial if I'd be able to "Star" notebooks, which would add them to my Favourite notebooks. Then, having quick access to those "Starred" notebooks would be a life-saver. Currently we have Recent, which lists Recent notebooks, however the use case is a bit different.

  20. Sort workspace by time

It would be very helpful to be able to sort notebooks in workspace/folder view by update time descending. That way, I could quickly access recently changed notebooks.
