  1. Git integration should be on folder/repo level, not just single notebooks

The current git integration only integrates single notebooks. But with notebook flows and other features, we have a whole folder structure of notebooks with interdependencies. So instead of integrating a single notebook with a file in git, you should be able to connect a Databricks folder to a git repo and branch, pursing/pulling the whole thing in one (just like a normal git repo).

I know this can be accomplished using the workspace api and CLI, but it would be great to be able to do this without involving the desktop at all.

  2. Default widget behavior should not be "run accessed commands"

When Databricks widgets are created, the default behavior is to "run accessed commands" when the values are changed. Even clicking in the box and clicking out without changing the value will trigger this behavior.

I believe the default behavior should be to do nothing, as automatically running when you are not familiar with this behavior can lead to unintended and catastrophic accidental runs.

  4. better fonts rendering for windows

team, it would be great to have a better font/ font rendering on windows screens - fonts look ***** on 19201080 screens in 110% scale - on macbooks they are rendered much more smoother.

It would be great to have a font or font rendering that is similar to jupyter notebook.

  5. Docstring

If like in Jupyter, you can display a docstring for functions (e.g. shift+tab)

  6. Notebook linked to repo - when moving or trashing, repo should be updated

Linking a notebook to a repository is easy, but if you delete or move a notebook, the linked repository isn't updated with the changes. I would expect that the repository would be kept up to date. This is confusing and requires manual management.

  7. Collapsible Headings in html export

It would be great if the html export of a notebook with collapsible headings would also have collapsible headings.

  8. Ipad could properly render table headers from commands

Notebooks run in iPad or even iPad Pros don’t render the headers. Seems like the table is created as two different layers, and the titles are in the layer that is behind the table contents, making the titles invisible when tables have more than 3/4 columns to display

  9. Make the green dot next to the active clusters more colorblind friendly

I have moderate red green colorblindness and sometimes its hard for me to tell if a cluster is active or not in the interface. If you could change the color of the active dot to a brighter more colorblind friendly green like #00FF48, or even add a little check inside the circle, it would be much appreciated.

  10. Searching for a string in notebook cells using regex

Sometimes, there is a need for a feature where we can pass a string within a widget and if the string exists anywhere within the notebook, it can be validated.

Scenario: Check to see if a table name passed as a widget variable is present in that particular notebook (String match).

  11. It would be great if cells showed the amount of time they have been running (not just when finished)

When you run a cell, it shows you the amount of time it took, when the cell finished.

It would be great if it showed you the time it has taken so far, while executing.

  12. Vim keybindings in Notebook

Introduce an extension to support in-cell Vim keybindings.
Vim has been optimized over several years resulting in an extremely efficient tool to edit and develop code.
A Vim extension for DB notebooks would be valuable asset for the community.

  13. Multiple Plots and Text Output per Cell

I want to thank the databricks team for including multiple matplotlib plots per cell as part of the 6.0 Runtime. However, for my workflow, this misses the mark on how I use this feature in Jupyter.

As part of exploratory analysis I will often loop through either columns or through subsets of the data and print out statistics, tables and/or other text along with plots of the data. This creates a lot of output per cell in Jupyter but allows me to scroll through the output quickly without having to reproduce the code over multiple cells. The end result is…

  14. Performance for large workbooks should be improved

Editing (i.e. typing in) any notebook on Chrome over about 400 lines of code is really slow to the point of being unusable. This happens across multiple notebooks and multiple machines.

  15. Load libraries before initialising spark session in notebook.

As of now, we load libraries that are defined at the cluster startup after spark sessions is kicked off. Unless we add a library into drivers classpath through init script library will not be loaded before session initialization.
This will affect the use cases where users want to add libraries for using them in spark extensions like spark.sql.extensions.

  16. remove notebook from recents

when I have notebooks with similar names and content, but in different workspaces, it would be useful to be able to remove from recents, when I have done with one of them, so I don't work in the wrong space.

  17. Timer for currently running cell

It would be really handy to have a running timer for currently processing jobs. It would help users identify cells which have been over running due to some user error, for example running a job with exponential complexity that would take hours whereas the usual process only takes a few seconds.

  18. "Single Node TensorFlow to Distributed DL" example worked

I can't finish https://docs.databricks.com/applications/deep-learning/distributed-training/mnist-tensorflow.html. My cluster is vanilla 5.3 ML image, standard nc12 gpu. On "prepare single node code", I get from "train(learningrate=.01, batchsize=64)" an "UnknownError: /dbfs/horovodtfkeras//MNISTDemo/train/1556245977.6539524/checkpoint.tmpa6724f77bca94128bd6ee8f49cbbd5ba; Input/output error". And under "Migrate to HorovodRunner" I get from "hr.run(trainhvd, learningrate=0.01, batch_size=64)" the error "org.apache.spark.SparkException: Job aborted due to stage failure: Could not recover from a failed barrier ResultStage. Most recent failure reason: Stage failed because barrier task ResultTask(1, 0) finished unsuccessfully.". I realize I probably do something silly. Advice is appreciated. :-)

  19. Bug in graph order when displaying in chart

creating a bar chart based on a temp view or saved table that is sorted by the column it is summarized on (y axis) creates an error when trying to aggregate over all results.
