  1. Long Hang Running Command

Sometime my command line will hang in "Running command". The code is really simple like "print("hello world")", which made my experience really, really bad!!! Could you provide more support or information why this happened?

  2. TensorFlow 1.14.0 / 2.0.0a broken

I really need TensorFlow 1.14.0 for a lot of bug fixes, but can't seem to install it using an init_script as described in https://docs.azuredatabricks.net/applications/deep-learning/single-node-training/tensorflow.html

The problem seems to lie in the dependency wrapt (I logged and found it to be a problem):
"Cannot uninstall 'wrapt'. It is a distutils installed project and thus we cannot accurately determine which files belong to it which would lead to only a partial uninstall."

This breaks 1.14.0 and 2.0.0a since both depend on wrapt>=1.11.1

I tried to first install wrapt with --ignore installed, and although it looks like it works I end up with…

  4. List of recent notebooks persisted across browsers/devices

It would be great if the list of recent notebooks was not specific to a browser/device and I could seamlessly sign in to another device and see the last notebook I was working on in the recent list, even if it was on another device (but with the same account, obviously.)

  5. Ipad could properly render table headers from commands

Notebooks run in iPad or even iPad Pros don’t render the headers. Seems like the table is created as two different layers, and the titles are in the layer that is behind the table contents, making the titles invisible when tables have more than 3/4 columns to display

  6. Add Azure Files Storage to supported mount list

dbutils.fs.mount should be able to mount to Azure Files Storage
This is the service Azure offers for one to store his code\files\outputs, this should be accessible from Databricks

  7. Make the green dot next to the active clusters more colorblind friendly

I have moderate red green colorblindness and sometimes its hard for me to tell if a cluster is active or not in the interface. If you could change the color of the active dot to a brighter more colorblind friendly green like #00FF48, or even add a little check inside the circle, it would be much appreciated.

  9. Small Cluster instances for reading files

A big pain point of spark / databricks is reading millions of small files. Unfortunately, that's a common scenario. It's possible to read those when spinning a lot of workers at the same time but unfortunately, it's also quite expensive. It would be great to have a cluster type with really little ram just for reading all those files. Afterwards is possible to perform a coalesce to pack them into bigger parquet files for further processing with a bigger cluster and less worker nodes.

  11. Searching for a string in notebook cells using regex

Sometimes, there is a need for a feature where we can pass a string within a widget and if the string exists anywhere within the notebook, it can be validated.

Scenario: Check to see if a table name passed as a widget variable is present in that particular notebook (String match).

  12. Style tables in notebooks similar to Pandas

I would like to use this feature of Pandas which works in vanilla jupyter notebooks:

    https://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/user_guide/style.html

Doing so results in an import error. Similarly, I would like to style display()'d Spark DataFrames.

  14. Create dashboard from multiple notebooks

I have different notebooks and would like to create a dashboard that pulls the outputs from different notebooks. I'm not sure if that feature is already available but when I try to add a cell to an existing dashboard from another notebook, I can't find it.

  15. It would be great if cells showed the amount of time they have been running (not just when finished)

When you run a cell, it shows you the amount of time it took, when the cell finished.

It would be great if it showed you the time it has taken so far, while executing.

  16. Vim keybindings in Notebook

Introduce an extension to support in-cell Vim keybindings.
Vim has been optimized over several years resulting in an extremely efficient tool to edit and develop code.
A Vim extension for DB notebooks would be valuable asset for the community.

  17. Provide a working example of TensorFlow 2.0 subclassing API running in eager mode in a Pandas UDF

Currently there is no example of working weight loading in a (possibly nested) subclassed TF2.0 model (tf.keras, the new standard) running inside a Pandas UDF, since this is the new industry standard of ML it would be great to have an example of how this is done in databricks

  18. Allow for non-GPU workers with a GPU driver

For single node-GPU (ML/TensorFlow/etc) work, it can be useful to have Spark running and aggregating work on the driver while not doing any GPU work on the workers. Thus it would be great to be able to mix and match a cost-effective setup that doesn't have GPU's idling on the workers.

  20. dbutils.fs.ls would return the lastmodified timestamp of files in addition to the size.

The dbutils.fs.ls command returns the path, filename and size of the files it lists. With the timestamp the input files can be processed in the proper sequence.
