  1. Cloning (duplicate) notebook

I may want to clone a colleague's notebook and experiment with it. Right now the only option seems to copy and paste command by command.

In the file browser, select the caret (context menu) for a folder or notebook/dashboard and click Clone. You are then prompted for a new name (you can change even change where the clone should be stored in the file browser hierarchy).

  2. 'Free text search' support across notebooks

Enable free text search support across notebook contents (not just titles). Potentially also incorporate content from knowledge base articles and Spark programming guides

  3. Simplify command drag-and-drop

Currently moving commands is bit cumbersome, as it is difficult to drag and drop over long distances (e.g., auto scrolling is needed). A different model - potentially where you can 'cut' and then 'paste' the commands elsewhere would simplify this tremendously.

  4. Offline viewing and editing capability for notebooks

Allow for offline viewing and syncing of notebooks (e.g., can create a snapshot on local machine to edit while disconnected from the internet).

  5. Support for displaying D3 HTML in our product

Allow for writing D3 code to create a visualization. Something like the following: http://nbviewer.ipython.org/gist/z-m-k/4484816/ipyD3sample.ipynb

  6. Configure cluster with default AWS credentials via webapp

Currently customers have to provide their AWS credential every time they create a table or interact with any AWS specific resources. These credentials are in clear text and visible in Notebooks. Need the ability for customers to configure their cluster once with their default AWS credentials and from that point on, any actions that requires credentials should use the default credentials.

  7. Sharing RDDs between Notebooks

Provide a way for customers to be able to share RDDs between Notebooks. Workaround exists (registerAsTable) for schemaRDDs but no way to do this for other RDD types.

  8. Allow organizing libraries in a given folder

Provide the ability for users to organize their uploaded libs inside a folder. Putting everything in the Workspace root folder is very confusing.

  9. Command vs Edit Mode like Jupyter

Should we separate notebook editing into a Command vs Edit mode like Jupyter/Ipython?

That is, in command mode, you are only selecting whole cells/commands, up and down keys just go to the previous/next command. Once you press enter, you enter Edit mode, in which the notebooks behave like today; up/down keys let you go through the different lines and edit the individual commands. Pressing ESC puts you back in Command mode.

Let us please know your thoughts.
